Samburu National Reserve

Wildlife

 

Situated at the south eastern corner of Samburu District in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. It is bordered to the south by Ewaso Nyiro River, which separates it from the Buffalo Springs National Reserve.

RhinoThe reserve is fairly hot and semi-arid, making for easy game viewing. The reserve is reach in wildlife with fame for abundance in rare northern specialist species such as the Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx (Also referred as Samburu Special).

Attractions:

  • The Samburu 5 – Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk and Somali Ostrich – can only be found in this part of Kenya
  • This area is home to the Samburu people, cousins to the Maasai. Up here their culture has remained relatively undisturbed by the modern world and they are proud to share their ways and knowledge with visitors
  • The area is well-known as a walking destination, in particular for walking safaris with camels, part of the Samburu way of life
  • Samburu connects to two other parks, Shaba and Buffalo Springs, with no interruption – linking the three of them into one large park
